The Great Smokey Mountains N.P., NC

We spent most of our time in the woods while visiting the Smokey Mountains. We camped along Deep Creek River for three nights. The weather was nice, reaching the low 70's during they day and 50's by night. It wasn't so different from a New England fall day. The foliage will peak here in the next couple weeks. Brian and I did a 14mile hike through the woods yesterday, beating our personal record for miles hiked in one day. We are both a little sore today but feel good about it.

Bryson City was just down the road from our campground so we drove in one morning it get some groceries. We walked around for a bit and had some lunch and checked out local brewery, Nantahala Brewing. Good beer.

I didn't get a lot of great photo opportunities in the park, there were not many good look outs from the trails we were on. We did see a heard of elk while driving through the park on the way in and a fat turkey fly from its roost while hiking. We also met a runner on the trail who told us he once through ran the entire Smokey Mountains and back (75 miles) in 20hrs and 20mins. Crazy.
