Shenandoah was.. foggy. Literally. It was also cold, wet and rainy. But we didn't let it get us down too much. We spent Friday lounging. Before buying the camper, our camping trips consisted of tenting, which we love, but man were we happy to not be sleeping in a tent this trip. Saturday was super foggy but not really raining so we got out and did some hiking. If you're not familiar with the
Appalachian Trail, it runs right through Shenandoah N.P. and it is a total pipe dream of mine to through hike the trail. Anyway, we hiked a small section of it on our way to Lewis falls, which again was almost too foggy to see but still very cool. We also did another short hike to see Dark Hollow Falls. I was a little disappointed we didn't really "see" Shenandoah but we still really enjoyed it.
One other highlight was the tap room at the Big Meadow Lodge. We went last night after our hike. The fog was so thick, it felt like we were in Sleepy Hollow. The taproom was sweet, the fire was roaring and it was a casual and comfortable atmosphere. We each had a flight of the local brews, which were also fantastic.
We left Sunday morning and drove through the park on Skyline Drive which was beautiful. Once again, we'll just have to come back and visit.
