I have nothing but great things to say about NJ. We visited Brian's friend and 3rd mate on his ship, Pat. They work together on the M/T Overseas NY. Pat lives in
Brick, NJ which is very close to Point Pleasant and the Jersey Shoreline. We probably had too much fun in Jersey. We arrived on Sunday 10/5 and did the usual.. drink beer, watch football and eat chicken wings at a local dive bar. On Monday, Pat gave us the tourist tour of the Jersey Shore, including a visit to the infamous Jersey Shore house in Point Pleasant. We had fresh squeezes, which is fresh squeezed OJ and Grey Goose, while sitting on the beach at the Tiki Bar. Being that it's October, it is not the busy season on the shore, so most of the arcades and shops were closed down. I mostly prefer things that way, I'm not one for crowds. We did visit the Jenkinsons Aquarium, which was very cool. We had another fun night out playing shuffle board and celebrating Dom's birthday, another merchant marine and friend of Pat.
On Tuesday Pat took us out on his family boat and we did a little fishing in the river. No stripers, but we did hook up to a few blues. A bad day of fishing pretty much still beats anything else, right? I think so.
I've always had a bad impression of Jersey and I'm so glad Pat changed my outlook. We would love to come back and visit again sometime.
